Over the last few years, Scottish and Southern Energy Networks (SSEN) have had a significant focus on diversity and inclusion. Their electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.8 million homes and businesses across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and Central Southern England. As an essential service it’s important that all customers can contact them in a way that suits them, and that when they do, their service is fully inclusive to their diverse customer base. They have two Inclusive Service Panels who challenge SSEN to improve their inclusivity, diversity and accessibility as well as bring best practice from other industries. One example of how they are attracting and encouraging new and existing diverse talent this past year is a ‘proof of concept’ project to increase the representation of disabled talent within the recruitment process.
