Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS) is a provider of emergency, education, prevention and business protection services to over 1.1 million people in the city and county and employ over 850 people. It is clearly evidenced that NFRS work hard to improve the diversity of their workforce and develop their expertise to meet the needs of service users in fire prevention, education and emergency situations. They went from the ‘Developing’ level to the ‘Achieving’ level of the Equality Framework for Fire and Rescue Services in 2010 and achieved the highest level ‘Excellent’ in 2013. Since then they have been in the Stonewall Top 100 of employers in 4 of the last 5 years and in September 2018 they signed up to the British Deaf Association’s British Sign Language Charter; NFRS are now working through an action plan to improve the way in which they deliver services and employment to the deaf community.
