Lurraine Jones

Director, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

A proud East Ender, Lurraine was born in Hackney, London. On becoming divorced, her life trajectory change as a single mum of four led to her decision to become a mature student of Further and then Higher Education in East London. Education changed her life and Lurraine is unwavering in her standpoint that education is for all, can be life transforming, is the path to social change and that everyone is entitled to ‘see’ themselves in their curriculum and their educators.

Lurraine has over two decades of extensive experience working both as an academic and in management roles in universities. One of the too few Black women senior leaders in Higher Education, Lurraine brings an intersectional and critical perspective to her research scholarship, inclusion strategies, anti-discriminatory and anti-racism perspectives and leadership. One of her inclusive strategy mantras is ‘nothing about us, without us’. She is passionate about developing and facilitating strategies to bring complex EDI agendas to the forefront to address racism, equity, inclusion and marginalisation in Higher Education.

Lurraine has spearheaded and made valuable contributions to several initiatives to promote and sustain equality, diversity and inclusion. Examples of her EDI engagement and collaboration are collaborating with the Metropolitan Police, West Sussex fire Service, the Housing sector and private Equity firms. Her curation and delivery of anti-racism workshops are designed to provoke critical thought, promote reflexivity and yield positive change. As an intellectual thought leader, Lurraine regularly contributes to public dialogues as a keynote speaker or Chairperson of discussion panels.
