COMMUNITY ORGANISATION AWARD FOR RACE, RELIGION & FAITH –
The Gypsy Roma Traveller Police Association (GRTPA) was established in 2014 by Jim Davies following a successful employment tribunal case for discrimination against Thames Valley Police. This led to the formation of the GRTPA to challenge negative stereotypes and discrimination against the Gypsy Roma Traveller Community. Its founding purpose is to support Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Police Officers across the United Kingdom in the work environment, however, in 2016 under the leadership of Peter Kotlar and Martin Campbell the GRTPA expanded its external work to also publicly challenge discrimination against Gypsy, Roma and Travellers on a larger scale. The GRTPA identified cases, practices and policy that could be considered as racism with the aim of making public services truly available to all on a fair and equal basis. The association now has over 150 members across the UK.
