COMMUNITY ORGANISATION AWARD FOR RACE, RELIGION & FAITH –
Esther Community Enterprise is a highly worthwhile third sector organisation, run on an entirely voluntary basis, serving the homeless and other socially excluded people in London and the UK. “Giving Purpose to Surplus” is their mission statement. They aim to meet those who have needs in the local community by redistribution of food and other consumables donated from retailers. They have over 70 Project Co-ordinators and help to distribute the food/groceries and clothing items within the local communities across the UK, on behalf of ECE. They have sustained their social enterprise through the goodwill and hard work of over 400 drivers and countless volunteers, who contribute their time, transportation and finance to this worthy cause. The recent innovative idea of The Floating Foodbank which was piloted over the last 6 months has seen an overwhelming response in social cohesion and community spirit.
