Positive Role Model Award

Positive Role Model Award for Gender

Nominee Profile

Location: Portsmouth
Firstly, thank you to the person who nominated me. I am truly honoured.

For over two decades, I worked alongside two charities as a consultant, researcher, and campaigner in relation to pregnancy and sudden infant death syndrome.

Since "retirement" some seven years ago, I have worked full-time as a human rights activist, mainly for women and the trans community. To call out VAWG, from May 2021 to May 2022, I researched and wrote about 125 women killed by men in an online campaign called #EveryThree Days. This has had a positive effect on the victims' relatives, knowing their loved ones were and are remembered.

In 2019, I founded Steph's Place, (rebranded as Translucent.Org.UK in 2022) and am its current CEO. We have quickly established ourselves as a voice for the trans community with the government, regularly meeting ministers and providing briefing notes. I have volunteered with Endometriosis South Coast charity, holding positions of CEO, Head of Operations and Parliamentary Engagement Officer. I am passionate that we must beat this awful disease.

As co-founder of Women's Action Network Portsmouth and a long-standing feminist, I am active in numerous campaigns, including promoting the need for women's health hubs, supporting WASPI women and the No Birth Behind Bars campaign.

I am a team member of Engendering Change, an organisation that promotes mental health, diversity, and inclusion; for three years, I was the elected women's officer at Portsmouth Labour Party, receiving an Inspirational Women of Portsmouth Award in 2023.

In the last year, I have become active in the Stand Up to Racism campaign, giving speeches at events calling out the far-right and also give talks on the Trump administration's "Project 2025", which seeks to eradicate diversity, equity, and inclusion together with women's human rights, not just in the US but globally.

Thank you for reading and considering to vote for me. xx
