Hi, I’m Eve, the founder of the social media campaign Let’s Make A Difference! Launched three years ago, the campaign has grown to over a million followers. Its mission is to raise awareness of communication challenges faced by individuals, particularly those with selective mutism and other communication difficulties, by sharing a “sign of the day.”
As someone with Autism Spectrum Disorder, I’ve faced communication struggles. In 2019, when I started high school, I became completely mute, making even simple tasks, like expressing that I wasn’t feeling well, impossible. The COVID-19 pandemic gave me an unexpected opportunity to learn British Sign Language (BSL), which allowed me to communicate my basic needs and connect with others at school.
Realising others faced similar challenges, I decided to share my journey and the knowledge I gained through Let’s Make A Difference. Over the past three years, I’ve been fortunate to have the support of an amazing community, including organisations and celebrities, like Air Ambulance UK, Charlotte Hawkins, Owen Warner, Lucy Spraggen, and The Anti-Bullying Alliance.
I’ve always believed that positive change starts with empathy and understanding. By sharing my experiences, I hope to encourage others to embrace kindness and look for ways they can make a difference. The journey to creating a more inclusive world starts with each of us, and through small actions, we can build a community that supports everyone, no matter their challenges.
It’s an honour to be nominated for the Positive Role Model Award for Disability. My goal has always been to empower others and ensure they know they’re not alone. Let’s Make A Difference is about creating lasting change and inclusivity, one sign at a time.
