Helen Edgar

Nominee Profile
Location: West Midlands
Hello, I am Helen Edgar; I am late identified Autistic.
I set up my platform, Autistic Realms, to advocate for a better understanding of neurodivergence in education and healthcare. I am passionate about promoting neurodiversity-affirming practice and connecting communities.
I am a parent to two neurodivergent children. I am a former Early Years/Primary teacher and worked for 20 years in SEND Early Years / Primary settings near Birmingham in the UK (primarily with those with profound and multiple learning disabilities).
I am an Autistic advocate, published writer and consultant. I currently work with Thriving Autistic, supporting their Discovery Programme for Autistic adults and facilitating family workshops and provide community support. I also work with GROVE Neurodivergent Education and Mentoring as their Education Training and Resource Specialist and Guest Blog Writer. I am honoured to be able to volunteer with Stimpunks as their Co-Creative Director. I support Cultural Autism Studies at Yale, and I'm honoured to be part of the team for Spectrum Gaming's Burnout Project. I enjoy supporting Autscape's online events and also volunteer to help keep monotropism.org up to date with current research and community resources.
My neuro-affirming writing and resources have been shared widely across many charities, organisations, NHS trusts, local authorities, school settings and across international communities.
I specialise in the theory of monotropism, barriers to education and burnout.
I thoroughly love my work and feel so privileged to have the support of so many people in the neurodivergent community.
Many thanks for all your support and encouragement.
