Gavin Skevington

Positive Role Model Award

Positive Role Model Award for Disability: Sponsor - BT

Nominee Profile

Location: Nottingham
I’m Gavin Skevington, some people know me as Tobey Alexander when I write or speak. I’ve always known I was different, but I never really allowed myself to accept it. That changed when I became a dad. I realised that if I wanted to be the best role model I could be, I had to stop hiding and start embracing who I truly was, for my children, and for myself.

I’m a Blue Light Services leader, an AuDHD author, and someone who’s spent over two decades working in high-pressure, frontline environments. In 2019, our family received a rare genetics diagnosis of (atypical) Timothy Syndrome, which helped explain a lot. That clarity gave me the courage to begin the long road to self-acceptance. In 2024, I was formally diagnosed with autism and ADHD. By then, I had already started sharing my story in the hope it might help others make sense of theirs.

Since 2020, I’ve spoken at events across the country, including speaking at the opening of the Police’s Neurodiversity Celebration Week Event 2025 hosted at New Scotland Yard. I’ve worked with national policing groups and local forces to support culture change and improve neuro-inclusion. Alongside that, I’ve created free resources like the NeuroEdge Starter Pack and I’ve been helping shape NeuroEdge into a full book that comes out this June and allows me to share my experiences and start the neuro-conversation.

I’m also proudly supporting WeAreMentality.com, a new men’s mental health organisation, as their neurodivergence contact, helping open up conversations that too often stay buried.

Creatively, I’ve found power in my difference. I write novels and screenplays rooted in emotion, memory, and imagination. What used to feel like a flaw has become my biggest asset.

I’m genuinely surprised to be nominated. I’m not a polished speaker or a loud voice in this space. But I care deeply, and I show up, even when it’s uncomfortable. If that helps someone else feel seen, then it’s worth it.
