🌟 Hi, I'm Sabiha, a proud parent of three incredible young individuals, two of whom have special educational needs and disabilities. Being born and raised in Birmingham, I've dedicated over three decades to advocating for the rights and support that our families deserve in the SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) arena.
Throughout the years, I've worn multiple hats, including serving as the chair of the PCF (Parent Carer Forum) in the city for five years. Currently, I am leading my own campaign group, working tirelessly to ensure that decision makers hear and include the voices of families like ours in important decisions that affect us. I also hold them accountable when things go wrong. My efforts extend beyond local platforms, as I actively contribute to television, radio, and newspapers to shed light on the challenges faced by SEND families, navigating a complex and sometimes unfriendly system.
As a staunch advocate and supporter of SEND, I am unwavering in my commitment to ensure that our community is not overlooked. In addition to advocating for my own loved ones, I provide assistance and support to other families, both individually and collectively. Holding senior leaders and organisations accountable is crucial to me, as I strive to ensure that the SEND voice is heard and included in all relevant discussions. Speaking truth to power is something I do with confidence, unafraid to stand up for the greater good.
Although I didn't choose the path of being a carer at a young age, I have given my all to this role. I firmly believe in planting trees whose shade I may not personally enjoy, and as long as I am on this earth, no family will have to navigate this challenging journey alone. I am grateful for every person who directs struggling parents to me, and I make sure they become part of a community of the most selfless individuals walking this earth. Our lives are lived in a way that most people may never fully understand.
💪 With unwavering determination and resilience, I will continue to fight for the rights of individuals with disabilities for as long as I have breath in my body.
