My name's Jamie. I’m a self-described Registered Blind AuDHD Rhino. Rhinos are just chubby unicorns with bad eyesight. I was born with a hereditary eye condition called Ocular Albinism with Nystagmus. Or in non-medical terms, I am the same as an albino, only with pigmentation, and my eyes like to go for uncontrolled walks or dances. I spent years being Disabled by society. As an adult, I was diagnosed with Autism and ADHD, which finally helped me see things a little clearer, excuse the pun.
I work full-time for a global recruitment company, AMS. In my role, I support our internal disability and accessibility efforts and work to create a culture that is accessible, representative, and equitable, not just internally but for our clients as well.
I have my own side hustle, Disabled by Society, where I support individuals and brands to take accountability for accessibility. I speak, train, and consult and have had the opportunity to support incredible brands to transform their cultures, marketing, and branding. I am one of the Co-Founders of Unlearning Ableism with my fabulous friend, Celia. Unlearning Ableism started as a live series centering Disability and Ableism whilst helping make the uncomfortable comfortable. This has now evolved into training, speaking, and consulting.
I create content on LinkedIn where I am named as a Top voice in Disability advocacy. I create graphics about Disability, ableism, accessibility etc... which are used in classrooms across the world and spark conversation. With an audience of 31k followers, I still pinch myself. From internalised ableism to empowerment, I could not be more proud or motivated to keep going.
I am named as one of the 100 most Influential Disabled People in the UK and an award-winning ERG Lead. Just like a rhino can change an ecosystem, I believe Disabled People can change the cultures that Disable us.
