Errol Murray
Nominee Profile
Location: Leeds
Errol Murray founded Leeds Dads - a voluntary charitable organisation that brings together a diverse community of fathers for social interaction and support..
The group supports and inspires Dads to take an active positive parenting role, so that they can have a positive impact in engaging and strengthening their family unit. Their vision is a city of confident and caring Dads who are actively involved with the mother and as parents, building successful relationships with their children, and Errol has been at the core of this.
Research shows that dads - especially new dads - are an important part of the family unit, but are often overlooked by services supporting parents and children.
So Leeds Dads aims to create a thriving community of Dads in Leeds, offering parenting advice, friendship, and wellbeing support.
Errol’s group sees over 1000 dads/year at free SoftPlay, Breakfast Clubs, MeetUps, Walks and Forest Schools with their pre-school. Activities are based in geographic areas deprivation, to make services accessible to those most in need.
These activities also include family separation and suicide prevention support, which have proved to be essential.
Over 7000 people follow Leeds Dads on social media, with a more personal group of 400 dads in our private Facebook Group and 250 in the WhatsApp Group.
Errol is in direct contact with hundreds of dads every month, many seeking help in terms of family support, child development information, and support with their personal wellbeing.
As well as leading Leeds Dads, Errol also works as a Perinatal Partners Peer Supporter.
Leeds Perinatal Mental Health Service supports mothers who experience mental health difficulties relating to pregnancy.
As one of just five Perinatal Partners Peer Supporters in NHS England, he has provided a service for hundreds of partners to help them understand what has happened to the mums at this vulnerable time, and help them to look after themselves and their families.
