Closer Communities is a local charity based in Scarborough that was formed during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 to support families that have a child with disabilities or complex medical health needs. In 4 years the charity has grown from 6 families to now supporting over 200.
They offer support through peer to peer support groups for parent carers including the Dads Behaving Madly Group. All of these provide vital interventions that often prevent the need for health or social care involvement in the future.
They also offer a wide variety of inclusive activities for disabled children and their siblings as well as one off events throughout the year such as their yearly Superstar Awards, where all children are recognised for their strengths and abilities.
