Alan Bell has spent over 20 years training people, businesses and organisations, particularly vulnerable people and victims of violence (women and children) in Personal Safety skills and Self Defence techniques. Setting up his social enterprise in 1997, Alan not only provides conflict resolution but increases confidence, greater self esteem and lower anxiety levels, providing people with the tools to live fuller lives. In 2013, this social enterprise became a charity – The Scottish Centre for Personal Safety. To date, Alan has helped train over 5,000 individuals making huge changes to their lives. He has developed courses specifically for the blind and visually impaired, LGBT, BME and people with dwarfism. This trailblazer was a finalist in RNIB’s Vision Pioneer “Teacher of the Year” 2017 awards, and continues to promote equality and diversity, training instructors from the various groups he teaches.
