POSITIVE ROLE MODEL AWARD FOR RACE, RELIGION & FAITH –
Police Sergeant 8636 of the Greater Manchester Police currently stationed at Bury Police Station. Abed joined the Police in Sept 1994, working frontline Policing with a passion for supporting vulnerable people and making a difference to the communities. Demonstrating a real personal commitment, Abed has given up his own time to develop links in the Mosques, Synagogues, Churches and other faiths and minority support groups. A direct consequence he has achieved innovation and progress in drawing people together and generating cohesion. Abed developed the LGBT Rainbow walk in Bury, during which religious leaders gave speeches fostering inclusivity and preaching peace – this led to the annual Gay Pride March in Bury town centre. Abed also developed the Bury Muslim forum bringing together different strands of the Islamic faith and Collabor8 which is a celebration of multiculturalism held every year.
