Wave Wahines CIC, founded by Yvette, is a pioneering surf club dedicated to empowering women and girls through surfing. What started as a quest to create a welcoming surf environment for her eldest child has blossomed into a community-driven initiative promoting inclusivity and ocean connectivity. Established 8 years ago, Wave Wahines has introduced thousands of women and girls to surfing, fostering friendships and a deep appreciation for water. Yvette's passion for breaking down barriers extends to her work with diverse ethnic communities and a dedicated surf program for local Syrian refugee girls. Additionally, Wave Wahines provides surf therapy sessions and supports women in refuge through empowering surf experiences. As the UK’s only surf club founded by a person of colour, Wave Wahines embodies inclusivity and resilience, striving to leave a lasting impact by empowering future generations with confidence and a love for the ocean.
