Community Organisation Award: Gender
Refugee Women Connect, a Merseyside-based charity, has been supporting women refugees and asylum seekers since 2004. Originally focused on perinatal care for traumatised asylum seekers, the charity now provides comprehensive services for all women refugees, including those who have survived gender-based violence, trafficking, and exploitation. Offering expert casework, housing support, school access, English classes, and bespoke mental health care, they address complex needs holistically. In 2019, they launched the ‘Power Up’ programme to amplify women's voices in policy-making. By partnering with over 30 local organisations and focusing on early intervention, Refugee Women Connect has expanded its reach, moving from crisis intervention to empowering women with knowledge and support. Their holistic approach ensures women build safe, independent lives in the UK, influencing social justice policies and the broader asylum sector.
