King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching Trusts with a turnover of £1 billion, 1.5 million patient contacts a year and a workforce of over 14,000 staff based across 5 main sites in South East London. Diversity is integral to their identity, their workforce is: 75% female, more than 55% identify as ethnic minority, 15% have a disability or long-term health condition; and nearly 5% identify as LGBTQ+. To harness this diversity, the organisational strategy is to be B.O.L.D. The D within that strand stands for “ensuring Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (EDI) is at the heart of everything we do.” The Trust’s Roadmap to Inclusion seeks to achieve this and includes over 20 programmes which include: community engagement a bespoke CPD accredited Cultural Intelligence programme and comprehensive training and development packages.
