Positive Role Model Award: Race, Religion & Faith
Dharmesh Mistry, born in Kampala, Uganda, moved to the UK as an infant and spent 20 years in Birmingham before relocating to Yorkshire in 1990. Dharmesh and his wife Dina, will celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary in September. Dharmesh worked as a mechanical engineer for 16 years before joining West Yorkshire Police in 2005, stationed in Bradford. In 2015, he began efforts to introduce the Hindu community to the force, launching recruitment campaigns and serving as an ambassador. In 2022, he established the Hindu Police Association. As a founding member of the Bradford Hindu Council, Dharmesh has been instrumental in organising events like the Leeds Faith Trail, numerous charity donations, and COVID-19 relief efforts. He also serves on the WY Police’s DE&I portfolio’s, National Police Chiefs Council's Race and Religion portfolio and the Leeds City Council Strategic Faith Leaders Board.
