Positive Role Model Award: Gender
Abigail and Donna Otchere, sisters and co-founders of SiSTEM, launched the initiative in August 2022 with a mission to support and empower women and girls in STEM fields. Drawing from their own experiences within the industry, they created SiSTEM to elevate underrepresented black women in STEM, providing a platform for visibility and mentorship. Through SiSTEM, Abigail and Donna aim to redefine the narrative, offering resources, career advice, and mentorship to encourage women from diverse backgrounds to pursue and thrive in STEM careers. Their initiative aims to bridge the gender gap by inspiring young girls and improving retention rates among women in the field, from early education through professional development. Abigail and Donna are dedicated to fostering inclusivity and diversity, ensuring that all women have equal opportunities to succeed and contribute to the industry.
