2023 Shortlisted Nominee
Community Organisation Award: Age
Out Together unites LGBT+ people across West Yorkshire, creating a diverse, vibrant and enduring multigenerational community to overcome cultural and social barriers that prevent LGBTQ+ people ageing with dignity. They help members keep well, have fun and stay connected by providing regular social activities, tele-friending and signposting to other services. There are 6,385 people in West Yorkshire who identify as LGB+ aged 55 and over (2021 Census). Out Together estimates that loneliness will affect at least 3000 LGBT+ older people across West Yorkshire. They are more likely to live alone, and less likely to have children or supportive family or neighbourhood networks to help them stay independent longer. Out Together focuses on working with front line organisations to reach people who may benefit and feel better connected, and rebuild confidence and sense of self.
