Community Organisation Award: Disability
International Mixed Ability Sports (IMAS) is a UK based not-for-profit organisation who have developed and are championing the Mixed Ability Model. The model promotes social inclusion through sports and education, recognising the right of everyone to participate in community sport, as equal members, without being separated, classified, or identified. Mixed Ability is very different to disability-specific provision. It includes people facing a whole range of obstacles to participation, including physical and learning disabilities, mental and physical health conditions, age-related impairments, low confidence, or other personal circumstances alongside people that don’t experience any of these barriers. This model represents an innovative and radical approach to societal transformation, striving to create a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental environment where everyone can achieve their full potential.
