2022 Shortlisted Nominee
Celebrity of the Year Award
As one fifth of the best-selling girl bands of all time, Mel B is one of the most widely recognised pop stars on the planet. It’s hard to imagine that the Spice Girls would have sold 80 million records and become such an influence on modern culture without the contribution of the feisty Melanie Brown, otherwise known by the nickname ‘Scary Spice’. Mel has personal experience of domestic abuse and that influenced her decision to join Women’s Aid as a Patron in 2018. Her experiences were discussed in her book “Brutally Honest,” and over the past few years, she has “shouted from the rooftops” to raise awareness of domestic abuse. Mel has fronted many of Women’s Aid’s awareness campaigns to end domestic abuse, including “Love Shouldn’t Hurt.” This excellent work did not go unnoticed and saw her awarded an MBE in May this year, which she received from the Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace.
