2020 Winner
Celebrity of the Year Award
Shooting to fame in 2011 on the eighth series of The X Factor, British singer-songwriter Leigh-Anne is known for being a member of the four-piece girl group Little Mix, becoming the first group to win the competition. Since their debut, Little Mix have been a global success, selling 60 million records worldwide, placing them in the top 5 of the best selling girl groups of all time. In an interview with Glamour magazine in March 2019, Leigh-Anne opened up about dealing with racism and comments on Twitter while feeling “invisible” for the first three years as the only black girl in Little Mix. Leigh-Anne has continued to speak up about her experiences and earlier this year appeared on Channel 4’s The Talk with other black celebrities recounting their stories with racist abuse. This year Leigh-Anne fronted a new one-off documentary on BBC, exploring the issues of racism and colourism in the UK.
